The Master with Award Winner Andrew Slorance:
Paralysed following a fall from a tree when he was a teenager, Andrew Slorance is keenly aware of the challenges faced by wheelchair users, who are paralysed by a spinal injury. He says that he is always trying to think of solutions to overcome problems. He launched a wheelchair design business Carbon Black almost 10 years ago and has more recently started up another company looking at other innovative products to facilitate greater independence for wheelchair users. He is currently designing a method for wheelchair users to carry luggage
His first job was in 1990 for Breakfast TV as a tape operator for TV-am. While working there he taught himself to operate editing suites and secured a job as a junior video editor at the ITV London studios. He became passionately committed to widening diversity through disability in the world of television and is currently rebooting his TV career and discussing onscreen opportunities as the BBC strengthens its focus on diversity.
