At the Company Annual Mansion House Banquet on Wednesday May 14 2014 Greg Eden and Russel Simms were jointly presented with The Master Wheelwrights’ Award for 2014.

Both men were injured in road accidents before they were twenty years of age and suffered life changing injuries that left them paraplegic and wheelchair bound.

They became heavily involved with sport and in particular Wheelchair Basketball as part of their rehabilitation, and both achieved National and International results.

Russel represented Great Britain for seven years in the wheelchair basketball team from 1988 to 1995. Greg also represented Great Britain as a paralympian in wheelchair basketball.

The two men met when they were playing for Birmingham Bulls wheelchair basketball team, enjoying a drink in the pub after a training session they realised that wheelchairs were still expected to be a ‘jack of all trades’ when in reality just like shoes, they wanted different chairs for different uses and circumstances. They realised that their similar outlook on life presented an opportunity and in 1988 their business RGK was born with Keith Bolesworth.

Working out of Russel’s kitchen and garage they set about providing wheelchairs appropriate for use and customised to suit the requirements of each individual.

The company has now grown to provide more than 1,500 hand-made wheelchairs a year that are shipped worldwide. They also supplied the chairs for the Paralympic Basketball team at London 2012.

They painstakingly added 1500 crystals to a chair for a lady who wanted plenty of ‘bling’ – proving that only the imagination inhibits the design.

Their company slogan – Believe – Live - Inspire sums up their positive attitude to life and their determination to make life better for wheelchair users.
