Apprentice wheelwright, Tom Carroll, displays his final project piece a ‘timber nib’ that he made to one third of its normal size. The ‘timber nib’ was an implement, drawn by horses that was used to extract lengths of timber from the forest.

During October 2020 Tom has been questioned about his project piece, including the 36 page portfolio about it and some final aspects of the Apprenticeship Training Plan by Robert Hurford and John Wright in order to assess whether he has achieved the standards required in order to complete his apprenticeship. Tom is pictured with Douglas Andrews, his wheelwright trainer and John Wright at his final assessment.
