Charitable Grants In 2019

During 2019, the Charity supported the following:

Mobility and access for the disabled

British Disabled Angling Association

Funding for platforms for wheelchair users to access fishing at Albrighton, Staffordshire and Foxcote, Hampshire.

Dogs for Good

Funding for the continued develop and training of an assistance dog.

Go Kids Go

Funding for the provision of wheelchair skills training course throughout the UK.

Happy Days

Funding for three special day trips for children with mental, physical and emotional difficulties in Birmingham, Mansfield and South Shields.

Horatio’s Garden

Funding for accessible planters for spinal injury patients in the garden at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore

Level Water

Funding for specialist one-to-one swimming lessons for children with physical and sensory disabilities at their new initiative at the Plymouth Leisure centre

Riding for the Disabled

Funding for the Association’s South East Region annual carriage driving day including rosettes for all the competitors

Paraorchestra and Friends

Funding for the provision of assistants for three new disabled musicians to enable them to participate alongside professional non-disabled musicians in two concert tours of the world’s only integrated virtuoso ensemble.

REACT

Funding to provide specialist mobility equipment for two severely disabled children.

Snowdon Trust

Funding of equipment for a disabled student with cerebral palsy and generalised dystonia, to enable them to take up a place at University.

The Back-Up Trust

Funding for wheelchair training sessions at the Princess Royal Spinal Centre in Sheffield, for at least 48 newly injured people, including 22 who were under 18 years of age.

Warwickshire Wheelchair Basketball Academy

Funding for a project to purchase of 7 sports wheelchairs in order to set up 3 additional team, targeting the entry of 50 or more young people from the West Midlands.

WheelPower

Principal sponsors of the annual Inter Spinal Unit Games held at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium by WheelPower, a national charity for wheelchair sport which provides opportunities to introduce people to wheelchair sport.

WheelPower – Individual grants

Grants for equipment made each year to individuals identified by WheelPower and considered jointly with the Wheelwrights’ Charity trustees. Sports included handcycling, rowing, shooting, trike riding, wheelchair racing and wheelchair tennis.

Wheelyboat Trust

Funding to provide specialised seating and wheelchair anchorage points for a new Coolam Wheelyboat V20 for the 1st Cuddington Sea Scouts at Thames Ditton.
