She recently discovered that her great grandfather and great great grandfather were working wheelwrights in Fordingbridge.
The Clerk: Mrs Susie Morris
Susie has been our Clerk since 2016. The Royal Navy is clearly an important part of her life. She is married to David who was a Submariner, captaining a number of boats in his career. Her father was also a submariner (but had been invalided out by the time she was born) and her grandfather was also in the Navy, reaching rank of Rear Admiral.
They have two daughters, one recently married and living in Zambia and the other working in Vancouver. No stranger to Livery Companies, prior to becoming our Clerk, she spent 5 years with the Worshipful Company of Skinners administering their main Charity. On leaving the Navy, David, became Clerk of the Worshipful Company of Salters, but has since retired.
Before this, Susie spent 18 years in the wine trade in administration, buying and sales followed by Finance Director roles with Financial PR company and two head-hunters.
Her first memories of the Wheelwrights are the friendly nature of the Company and the terror of a table plan for 220 people at Mansion House. That number seems nothing after the recent Mansion House banquet of nearly 300 attendees!
And if she is not busy enough, she is also a serving JP and has been doing that for 30 years.
She likes to relax gardening and if there is no one else she will act as crew for David’s 40 ft wooden classic boat “Kalbarri” which provides day charters on the Thames.
